WARNING FROM A NOBEL LAUREATE: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IS TAKING PEOPLE'S JOBS

Artificial intelligence technologies could significantly change the labor market in 2026. This was stated in an interview with CNN by Nobel Prize laureate and one of the leading scientists in the field of artificial intelligence, Geoffrey Hinton.

According to him, artificial intelligence is already very powerful and, in the coming years, will reach a level where it can completely replace many professions. In particular, call centers, technical support services, and standard office tasks will be automated first.

Hinton notes that the performance of artificial intelligence models roughly doubles every seven months, which is causing drastic changes in the field of programming: algorithms can now perform tasks that previously took hours in a matter of minutes.

The scientist believes that in the next few years, artificial intelligence will be able to complete large software projects independently. In the future, very few specialists will be sufficient for software development processes that currently require months of work.

Geoffrey Hinton admitted that his concerns have increased since leaving Google in 2023. He stated that artificial intelligence is not only rapidly developing its ability to analyze and draw conclusions, but in some cases is also increasing its ability to manipulate people to achieve its goals.

At the same time, the scientist does not deny the positive impact of the technology on medicine and climate research. However, he notes that insufficient attention is being paid to reducing risks on a global scale. The main criterion for companies remains economic profit, while safety is often pushed into the background.

Hinton believes that in the modern economic system, replacing workers with algorithms is financially profitable, and this may lead to the rich becoming even richer while a large part of the population is deprived of its source of income.

The scientist warns that if issues of social policy, retraining programs, and fair distribution of income are not resolved amid the mass adoption of artificial intelligence, a new wave of poverty may emerge.
